After being down by more than 1,000 votes just a week ago, incumbent Congressman Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, has taken a 206 vote lead over Republican challenger Randy Altschuler in the battle for the first congressional district.
As of Monday night, counting had been completed for the towns of East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton and Southold. Counting in Brookhaven, the only remaining town, is more than halfway done, with 169 election districts counted, leaving another 125. There are only 1,912 ballots left to be counted, but that's more than enough to swing the vote one way or the other.See the full content of this document
