A new railroad spur for the Enterprise Park at Calverton, aimed at taking trucks off the roads and creating a freight terminal for the East End, received the golden shovel treatment Friday morning.

Run by Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter, the event at the Metro Fuel property at EPCAL drew such luminaries as U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, state Sen. Ken LaValle, Assemblyman Marc Alessi and several economic development honchos from the state, Suffolk County and the Town of Riverhead.
