The Roosevelt School District has seen some hard times, from a state takeover in 2002 to more recent rejected budgets. But that won't stop Kirk Kordeleski, president and chief executive of Bethpage Federal Credit Union, from aiding the beleaguered district's students. This month, he was named to the board of Project GRAD, a national organization that offers scholarships to students otherwise unable to afford college.

Project GRAD has been on Long Island for nearly four years, mainly helping the Roosevelt district.
