During the 15 years she spent as a comptroller and chief financial officer, Sharon Fierstein, a Long Island resident, never had to comply with the continuing education provisions of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. The group only mandated continuing education credits for practicing accountants who performed audits and other similar reviews. While she worked in private industry, Fierstein kept up with requirements out of choice, but not obligation.
But new regulations require that anyone with a CPA credential must meet continuing education requirements - or lose the accreditation. That will bring thousands of additional financial professionals under the watchful eye of the NYSSCPA - essentially redefining the boundaries of the profession.See the full content of this document
