Contract Negotiations Extended for Long Island Grocery Store Workers

Summary


The two sides bargaining over a four-year contract for some 7,000 grocery store workers on Long Island remained at the table Monday after extending a strike deadline through the weekend.

Local 338 of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union/ United Food and Commercial Workers had previously set two strike deadlines, most recently for midnight on Oct. 13. With talks stalled, the union set a new deadline of midnight Tuesday, according to a spokesman.
