Manhattan-Based Clarendon National Insurance Company Pays Back $1m to Policyholders

Manhattan-based Clarendon National Insurance Company has refunded nearly $1 million to automobile insurance holders living primarily on Long Island and New York City due to an improper rate hike.

The New York State Department of Insurance said the insurer refunded $992,000 to 1,227 automobile insurance policyholders the company overcharged when it improperly imposed a 30 percent rate hike in 2006.
