Summary
Suffolk's most renowned extremist, Dick Amper, took a gratuitous shot at County Executive Steve Levy in a Long Island Business News article regarding Amper's wishes for 2007 ("Long Island 2107," Jan. 5). Why would he go out of his way to do so, when Steve Levy has put Suffolk's Open Space Program back on track after it was on life support following scandals in the previous administration?
Levy won awards and praise from the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, the Long Island Network Neighborhood and virtually every other environmental group in Suffolk - with the exception of Amper. Could it be because Levy is one of the few officials who refuse to be intimidated by Amper's irrational bullying tactics? Levy understands that while preserving our environment is a top priority, pursuing economic growth and affordable housing should not be ignored - and that the issues are not mutually exclusive.See the full content of this document
