N.Y. Lawmaker No Longer Seeks to Divide Stony Brook University Hospital From Its Medical School

Summary


State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle fired a shot across the bow of Stony Brook University Hospital last November when he called for the hospital to split from Stony Brook's medical school, but it looks like Stony Brook has dodged the bullet.

LaValle, R-Selden, is planning to reintroduce a version of his bill that still calls for a 15-member oversight board, but no longer seeks to divide the hospital from the school. The break-up would have required relationships between the hospital and medical school to be governed by contracts rather than the current under-one-roof interaction.
