Long Island Unemployment Jumps in December

Summary


Long Island's job market withered in December as the economy tumbled and retailers scaled back hiring in what is normally their busiest month of the year.

The Island lost 21,600 private sector jobs in the 12 months ended in December, a 2 percent drop, and shed 6,500 jobs from November, according to the New York State Department of Labor.
