These are trying times for most green groups who rely on donations for funding. While some green groups are getting boosts from stimulus funds, most find, despite an environmental awakening, it isn't easy to get money for being green.

"Business people are talking about reduced business travel, staycations rather than vacations," said Dick Amper, executive director of The Pine Barrens Society in Riverhead. "Let me tell you the first thing people stop doing in a recession: giving their money away."
