Gerda Kamberova has a large microchip on her shoulder. As head of Hofstra University's Department of Computer Science, she knows professional programmers are eminently employable - if you can write code, you can find work. She also knows national enrollment in computer science courses is down dramatically - and female enrollment is virtually nonexistent. This won't do for Kamberova, who owns a Ph.D. in computer science, a master's in mathematics and a dogged determination to level this lucrative playing field.
