Summary


The federal government's declaration of Long Island as an emergency disaster area related to the recent Nor'easter is expected to lead to reimbursement for most of the money spent by the Long Island Power Authority related to the storm.

LPIA board chair Howard Steinberg, at the organization's board meeting today, said the Federal Emergency Management Agency's decision should result in reimbursing about 75 percent of the roughly $35 million in expenses LIPA incurred related to the storm, leaving the power authority to pay about $11 million.
