Instead of throwing out excess building materials or household appliances, some Long Island companies and individuals donate them to the Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk's ReStore in Ronkonkoma.
The ReStore is a home improvement resale store that collects about 500 tons of durable materials that would otherwise end up in local landfills each year. The store, which accepts new and gently used items, recycles them to Long Island homeowners and contractors, who can purchase them at about a third of retail prices (or less for used products). Donations are tax deductible, and proceeds from sales go to build homes for those living in substandard housing throughout Suffolk County.See the full content of this document
