On a recent drizzly Wednesday afternoon, high school students milled about the lower level of the Nassau Coliseum. No, they weren't sporting Juicy Couture or the latest Sean Paul sweatshirt. Instead, they wore navy blazers and crisp white shirts.

The students belonged to Distributive Education Clubs of America, an organization that strives to develop leaders in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. And this day, Jan. 12, was the regional DECA competition, where 800 Nassau County students demonstrated expertise by solving a business problem before judges who also served as clients or prospects, depending on the case study.
