As her company benefited from the military's seemingly unquenchable thirst for body armor in 2004, so did DHB Industries chief operating officer Sandra Hatfield.

Hatfield, second in command at the bullet-proof vest manufacturer, took advantage of the company's soaring stock price, which nearly tripled to $19.04 by Dec. 31, 2004 on the strength of government contracts for its products, and cashed in stock options worth $3.5 million to boost her pay to $5.3 million.
