Tom Suozzi has a new plan that we've heard before.
The Nassau County executive last week unveiled his 90/10 project to reinvent the region into a thriving and hip "New Suburbia." The idea is to plug the brain drain and reverse sprawl by turning the soulless strip malls and withered downtowns into vibrant new centers of business, apartments and entertainment, things that would attract a younger population. It's not too different from the "Cool Downtowns" plan he took on a publicity tour last summer. Only this time, to convince fans of the suburban status quo that he's not trying to erect night clubs on their street corners, he has slapped the 90/10 moniker on the plan, making clear that he intends to leave 90 percent of Nassau alone, and re-create the remaining 10 percent.
