Summary
Just this past week Governor Paterson released the Draft State Energy Plan that was prepared by the State Energy Planning Board. This report is designed to be New York's road map to energy independence. According to the report, the state imports more than 53 percent of its energy from outside of New York. The goal will be to reduce that number by attracting new energy producing companies to New York, which will create more jobs.
The Board focused in on the need to develop policies that would attract businesses to the alternative energy field. The report highlighted the importance of developing and promoting existing economic development programs that would assist businesses engaged in the clean tech field. It also spoke about the need for local governments to take the lead on developing new zoning laws that would allow for the siting of alternative energy facilities such as solar, wind and biomass.See the full content of this document
