Immigration is overwhelmingly about economics. If any doubts linger, they should be wiped away by the decline in the U.S. foreign- born population last year.

In a growing economy, rising labor demands by businesses and, ultimately, consumers not met by the native-born population translate into increased immigration. That is, immigrants see opportunity in meeting those labor needs.
