This has not been a good week for Long Island when it comes to economic data.
First, the U.S. Census' Annual Population Survey reported that Long Island has lost 120,000 individuals between the ages of 25 and 44. These folks approximate 10 percent of the regional workforce and are the very people the region needs to fill the jobs left vacant by retiring baby boomers. Without them, sustaining the Long Island economy will be dicey, as companies assess the available labor force necessary to carry on operations. This could not come at a worse time, as jobs are being outsourced to less expensive regions of the world.See the full content of this document
