Summary


On April 9, the state Legislature adopted the last parts of the budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. A number of media outlets around the state made a big deal that the budget's constitutional deadline of April 1 had been missed and that the Legislature had not done its job.

In fact, no one was really hurt by the delay and given the circumstances of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer being replaced by Gov. David Paterson only 14 days before the April 1 deadline, it was a real accomplishment to get the budget adopted within a month of the new administration assuming office.
