Even as the federal government begins implementing measures designed to improve insurance coverage for millions of Americans, more than ever are finding themselves uninsured, according to the latest statistics.

About 59.1 million people in the United States had no health insurance for at least part of the year as of the first quarter of 2010, up from 58.7 million in 2009 and 56.4 million in 2008, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's analysis of the National Health Interview Survey.
