Michael Papierno, general manager of the 103-room Four Points By Sheraton-Plainview, said his hotel has been running at 85 percent occupancy, well above the norm for Long Island hotels, especially during a down economy. The average occupancy rate on Long Island so far this year was 72.3 percent and the average in May was 65.4 percent, according to Smith Travel Research.
