Port Washington-Based Cedar Realty Trust Narrows 1q Loss

Port Washington-based Cedar Realty Trust narrowed its first- quarter loss to $9.3 million from $12.3 million a year ago, although its funds from operations declined. The company, which owns and operates supermarket-anchored shopping centers primarily in the Washington, D.C. to Boston corridor, said its properties were 90.6 percent occupied and 91.8 percent leased at quarter's end.

Ad Honors for Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital

Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital has been singled out for excellence in advertising in a contest focusing on health care marketing. The hospital won three national awards for advertising, including Best of Show, for a television campaign featuring testimonials of mothers whose children received life-saving care at the hospital.

New York Improperly Paid Workers' Comp to Inmates

New York state paid seven inmates more than $36,000 in workers' compensation benefits while they were in prison even though they weren't eligible, according to an examination by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The audit found that the State Insurance Fund, the agency that administers the state's workers' compensation program and in some cases also acts as the insurer that pays claims, approved and paid benefits in those cases.

Mta Chief Joseph Lhota Tells Long Island Association No East Side Access Until 2019

Speaking before the Long Island Association on Tuesday morning, Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and CEO Joseph Lhota said plans to add Long Island Rail Road access to Grand Central Station has hit problems, pushing back estimations of its opening until at least 2019. "We were originally looking at 2018, but the most recent analyses puts the opening at 2019," Lhota said. "I don't want to see it go past 2019."

Allegria, Jones Beach Hotels Owe Nassau County $745k

Of the more than 50 hotels and motels in Nassau County, all but two have made the appropriate tax payments to the county, Comptroller George Maragos found in a just-released audit. Those hotels, the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach and the Jones Beach Hotel in Wantagh, collectively owe the county more than $745,000 in fines and uncollected taxes through the county's Hotel and Motel Occupancy Tax.

Two Long Island-based firms, Henry Schein and Cablevision, made it into the Fortune 500 ranking of the nation's largest firms. Henry Schein advanced in the rankings from last year while Cablevision dropped further down the list from a year ago.

Newsday Names Valerie Green Amnewyork Publisher

Valerie Green has been named publisher of amNewYork, Cablevision's daily free weekly distributed in New York City. The company Tuesday said Green will oversee the day-to-day operations of the publication effective immediately, reporting to Newsday Media Group Publisher Fred Groser, who had also been serving as amNewYork publisher.
